Mill Woods Park Master Plan Spring 2007

The Master Plan is progressing and expanding.  The skate-board park is operating and drawing kids like a magnet.  The new dog park is also popular.  The Wethersfield Dog Park Committee continues to work with Parks and Recreation and maintain a website: www Bocce courts, underwritten by UNICO have been installed in the shade in the picnic area.

A main objective for the Master Plan during 2007 is fund raising.  State sources have been approached; the budget cycle is operating with an objective of obtaining funds to start the design of two fields; one for soccer and one baseball.  Meanwhile, local sources and ideas are being pursued: t-shirts are available to buy at $10, ball field fence advertising (during baseball season) is being pursued with town authorities.  Ideas for raising funds are welcome; contact Parks & Recreation.

In anticipation of starting to design the two fields, the search for a contractor started late in 2006.  Qualifications statements were reviewed from 11 submitting firms; four were selected early in 2007 for further evaluation.  A final recommendation is expected by early spring.

Residents are encouraged to learn about the Master Plan issues and express their opinions.  The park is subject to active and passive uses throughout the year
